Anastasios Leventis died in 1978 after spending much of his business career in West Africa. He provided for the establishment of a Foundation to carry on his philanthropic activities. The Cypriot branch of this Foundation was established in 1980, and this brief book outlines the major activities of the Foundation relating to the preservation and presentation of the cultural heritage of Cyprus through the first ten years of its life. Projects supported by the Foundation vary widely including construction of the experimental Chalcolithic round house at Lemba north of Paphos, the excavation and publication of the Late Bronze Age site of Maa-Palaeokastro and the construction of a site museum there, the restoration of the SW corner of the temple of Apollo Hylates at Kourion and the restoration of the main room of the `House of Aion' at Paphos. The Foundation has also contributed to the cost of restoration of numerous historic churches and the cleaning and preservation of their wall paintings. Many important Cypriotantiquities have been repatriated from the European art market courtesy of the Foundation, and a new gallery for Cypriot antiquities was opened at the British Museum thanks to a generous grant from the Foundation. All of these activites are detailed in this volume with copious illustrations.
